A Day at Ibn Tulun Mosque (David)

Amy and I took a morning to visit the Ibn Tulun Mosque.  The oldest in Cairo, 16th century I think.    Great open structure!

View of Cairo from atop te mosque heading up the minaret

View from courtyard.  Courtyard is surrounded by arched hallways.  The tall skinny tower is the minerat, which is whate the call to prayer comes from.   The shorter wider one is typically a dome of a masualem.

Hallway.

Dusty sunlight.

Favorite picture.  Man sweeping with a palm branch.

Direction of Mecca.   All mosques have this and always decorated.   Worshippers face this direction

More hallway

Decorated archways

Yup.  More archways and hallways

Photo shoot with guys there.

The place for washing of hands and feet before worshipping.
